Light Overcomes Dark, Illuminating the Heart Activity

Writer's picture: Kelly LevyKelly Levy

Light gets in doesn't it, no matter what we do or how we walk in our life eventually we ourselves have walked or in other cases been called, or told about the wonderful news of Jesus Christ and we have had a heart change of some sort when we were called by God to come on in! And we gave Him our YES! Our All-In I'm in Jesus shout! Or maybe for you it wasn't a shout and it was more of a whisper, either way you said 'Jesus you are welcome into my heart', or 'God sure I'm in', or 'Yes you can pray for me'. Whatever and how it happened you were one way and then you were a new creation, the old had passed away and you felt like a whole new person! Do you remember the time that happened to you? How did you react? What did you say? What did you do after that happened to you?

Materials for this art project that you could use:

  • Balloon (if using, you could try to decorate before blowing up, or blow up and then decorate, your choice)

  • Plastic Sandwich Baggie or Plastic Wrap

  • Plastic cup

  • Clear object of any kind that you can draw on or just use for the non art part of the project

  • Paper

  • Any writing utensils: pens, pencils, markers, colored or not

  • Glitter to add any sparkle

  • And any other art supply you want to add to your creation

For the video on how we did this, you can go to In the Spirit Facebook group page. For written instructions keep reading:

  1. First take a piece of paper or whatever else you chose to draw on, whether it be a baggie, a cup, or something else that is clear. Draw a heart or what you think a heart would look like.

  2. For this activity the heart you draw is going to symbolize your heart. Decorate it any way you wish, pick your favorite colors and color it in, it's ok to go outside the lines!

  3. Add any additional flare to your heart, for those who want glitter, or want to add anything else to your hearts. Creativity is welcome!

  4. When you are done with drawing and creating your hearts. I want you to find a light source. This can be a table lamp, ceiling lamp, sunlight, flashlight, lantern or any other thing that may give off light. There isn't any wrong way to do this activity, so whatever light possibilities you got you are good.

  5. Hold your heart creations with picture facing you near the light source.

Observation Corner: What do you see? (Note: You should see that the heart is illuminating, that it is lit up). Feel free to write down any observations and pray and ask Holy Spirit for an interpretation as to what you are learning in this activity. He may lead you to some scriptures that may help.
